Hansjörg Wohrle

Hansjörg Wöhrle was born on August 29, 1943 in Lörrach. The top chef from Markgräfl began his career with Hans Ley in the “Bahnhofshotel” in Lörrach. After his apprenticeship as a cook, he gained a lot of experience in Switzerland. He cooked in renowned establishments such as the Mövenpick in Geneva, the “Kulm” in Arosa or the “Palace” in Bürgenstock.
At the age of just 25 - in 1968 - he took over the parents' company ADLER in Weil am Rhein.




In 1971, after only three years, Hansjörg Wöhrle received the Michelin star. Thanks to his extraordinary persistence, he succeeded in holding the award for more than 35 years - until he fell ill.
In 1972 Wöhrle married his long-time friend Gerda, née Limberger, with whom he ran the two houses until the end.
In the years that followed, hotel rooms were renewed and expanded again and again. In 1988 Hansjörg Wöhrle bought the neighboring property and opened a cellar bar "Spatz" with a wonderful beer garden. On three floors are additional modern hotel rooms furnished.

Hansjörg Wöhrle regularly received awards in Gault Millau , Feinschmecker or VARTA guide r . The “ Schlemmer Atlas ” counted Wöhrle to the end of the 50 best chefs in Germany. In 2017, the ADLER was awarded four out of five possible cutlery and an arrow pointing upwards.
The ADLER was popular with international gourmets and celebrities from business, politics and society, including Theodor Heuss, Helmut Kohl, Walter Scheel, Lothar Späth, Johannes Rau as well as Heinz Rühmann, Gunter Sachs and Brigitte Bardot. They all appreciated the classic-modern cuisine by Hansjörg Wöhrle and the unique ambience.
Even Mikhail Gorbachev invited him to Moscow, to the Olympic Park, for cooking demonstrations and a series of lectures.
